This year the 2012 Paediatric Intensive Care Society Annual Scientific Meeting will be held in Dublin, Ireland. This is the first time it has been hosted outside the UK and the programme will reflect this international flavour by including distinguished speakers from across the globe.
The theme for this year’s meeting is Learning from the past and planning for the future. This will be reflected throughout the program with sessions on clinical risk, decision making, an update on the brain and hands on seminars discussing serological markers and monitoring. These will be interspersed by free paper sessions selected from the submitted abstracts. There will also be a state of the art lecture delivered at the end of each day by keynote speakers.
The multidisciplinary programme will deliver up to date evidence based lectures targeted toward an audience of medics, nurses and AHPs, of all levels of experience, working in PICU, NICU and paediatric anaesthesia. It will to provide an interactive learning environment where delegates have direct access to world leaders in scientific clinical research and practice in paediatric intensive care. It will also undoubtedly be of interest to those caring for children and neonates in other settings such as adult intensive care.
There will be poster walks each day to provide opportunities to discuss and comment on the submitted abstracts, panel discussions and meet the experts’ sessions. There will also be a number interactive sessions, presented throughout the conference, exploring ethical dilemmas in PICU.
As usual there will be informal sessions and a preconference master class day on Wednesday 26th September. These workshops will be delivered by international experts and will include opportunities for hands on teaching of bedside ultrasound for diagnosis and PICC line insertion, and the set up and analysis of CVVH, EEG and NAVA.
The main conference programme will be complemented by a full trade fair and an active social programme. The welcome reception and gala dinner will reflect the strong musical and poetic culture of the capital city of Ireland and will provide extensive opportunities for networking with both old and new colleagues.
